Here are some of the frequently asked questions relating to accessing the Electrical Worker online services using igovt. If you have any general questions about igovt, please see the FAQs on the igovt site.

Do I need to have an igovt logon to access the Electrical Workers online services?

Yes you need to have an igovt account to access the secure part of the Electrical Workers services where you can update your details, buy items online, update your safety training records, access copies of your invoices (if any) and process your re-licensing application. However, you can buy most items online and access the public register without having to logon to the system.

Does igovt logon require me to have an email address?

Yes it does, but your personal information is not shared with any government agency or between agencies (including the EW online system).

What if I already have an igovt logon?

It is great if you already have an igovt logon. You can use your igovt logon details (username and password) to access our online services. However, you will need your activation code the first time you access the EW online services using igovt.

Do I need an activation code to access the Electrical Workers online services?

Yes you will need an activation code the first time you access the secure online services using igovt logon. But once you’ve accessed the online services using igovt logon, you won’t need an activation code again.

Do I need an activation code if I already have an igovt logon?

Only if you are accessing the online services for the first time using igovt logon.

Do I need an activation code if I have already accessed the online services?

If you have already accessed the online services using igovt, then you don’t need an activation code. However, if you accessed the services using the old logon method, you will need an activation code again.

How do I get an activation code?

The activation code would have been sent to you around April 2010. If you haven’t received an activation code or have misplaced it, please contact the Help Desk on 0800 661 000 or email info@ewr.govt.nz.

Can I choose my email address as my Username?

Yes if the email address is less than 25 characters.

What if I created another igovt logon when I already had one?

You can combine your igovt logons with the ‘igovt Manage logon’ button. You’ll see this button on the online services page once you have successfully logged on.

What do I do if I created another igovt logon by mistake?

If you had already accessed the online services using igovt, and have now created another igovt logon and want to access the online service. There are a few things you can do:

  • If you remember the igovt username and password that you used to access the online services then you can logon to the online service and use the igovt Manage logon functionality to delete your newly created igovt logon (if that is what you wish to do)
  • If you cannot remember the igovt username and password that you used to access the EW online services or want to use the new igovt logon details for future purposes, then contact Help Desk on 0800 661 000 or email info@ewr.govt.nz to get a new activation code. You will be asked some questions to prove your identity.

Can I change my username?

Yes you can change your username by using igovt Manage logon button. You’ll see this button on the online services page once you have successfully logged on.

Can I change my password?

Yes you can change your password by using igovt Manage logon button. You’ll see this button on the online services page once you have successfully logged on.

Who should I ring if I have problems with accessing EW online services?

If you are having issues creating your logon or receive an error message while doing so, ring the igovt Help Desk on 0800 457 4357 or email help@i.govt.nz.
